Gender and governance of land tenure

2011
FAO, Multi country

As part of the FAO-led process of developing Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security in 2010 and 2011, Mokoro Principal Consultant, Elizabeth Daley, led the work on gender dimensions.

The assignment included research into key issues around gender and governance of land tenure and preparation of a published Land Tenure Working Paper in February 2011, as well as organisation of a technical workshop on gender and governance of land tenure.

A technical guide on gender and governance of land tenure was also drafted, covering policy-making, legal issues, institutions, technical issues and communications, and setting out good practices to assist land sector practitioners in achieving gender-equitable governance of land tenure. This guide has since been published and widely disseminated by FAO.
