Ethiopia Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper monitoring study

2002
DFID, Ethiopia

This consultancy assignment was to support the drafting of Ethiopia’s full Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP).

The objective of the assignment was to identify and specify a set of indicators that were in line with the Government’s overall development agenda and to monitor progress towards achieving the various goals and targets set out in the PRSP. The second objective was to outline a monitoring system for implementation of the PRSP (based on the existing Welfare Monitoring Survey) and describe the process to further develop the system.

Mokoro’s consultant, Stephen Lister, led a three person team to carry out this work and produced a report which included consideration of the scope of the PRSP and its monitoring requirements, the characteristics of poverty in Ethiopia, an overview of the available data related to this, and proposed indicators.

Follow-up work funded by UNDP was subsequently carried out in 2003.
