Gender growth assessment

2008
IFC, Rwanda

The International Finance Corporation launched its Gender Programme in 2004. The programme was a cross-cutting initiative by the IFC to mainstream gender issues throughout its operations, while at the same time helping to better leverage the untapped potential of women in emerging markets.

Mokoro Principal Consultant, Elizabeth Daley, provided land expertise to a Law and Development Partnership team conducting a Gender Growth Assessment of Rwanda for the IFC, during a joint IFC/World Bank mission focused on investment climate reform and support for women entrepreneurs.

The objective of the gender analysis of the legal and regulatory environment was to assess the extent to which laws and regulations affecting women in business in Rwanda are discriminatory against women and what impact these laws have on the business environment for women entrepreneurs. The study also proposed actions related to legal and regulatory reform aimed at removing the identified gender-based obstacles to women doing business.
