Gender and equity implications of large land-based investments in Tanzania

2011
FAO, Tanzania

Principal Consultant, Elizabeth Daley, was commissioned by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) to lead fieldwork-based research in north-eastern Tanzania.

The objective of the study was to develop policy recommendations on gender and social equity aspects of large land-based investments for labour issues, access to land, and income generation opportunities.

The fieldwork involved collaboration with investors, companies and industry organisations to identify models of good practice for positive agricultural investments in horticulture and biofuels which resulted in the preparation of a comprehensive report of the findings. The team contextualised their report within the broader sphere of agricultural development policy and rural livelihoods.
