Ethiopia key issues paper

focusing on the nutrition, agriculture, food security, environment and climate change sectors

2019
Global Affairs Canada, Ethiopia

A Mokoro team, led by Stephen Lister, conducted an in-depth literature review for Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to support an upcoming evaluation of Canada’s aid to Ethiopia.

The paper provided a common background on Ethiopia’s political economy, its development strategy and its relationships with donors. It then sought to outline some of the key issues in Ethiopia, over the past five years, in the nutrition, agriculture, food security, environment and climate change sectors. This included addressing the main causes of food security in Ethiopia, and highlighting Ethiopia’s response to climate change and food insecurity. The paper highlighted some of the key efforts from the international community in the response to mal-nutrition, climate change and food insecurity in Ethiopia.

The final report was well received by Global Affairs Canada, and commended for being a useful and accessible contribution to their upcoming evaluation.
